Perhaps it’s the time of year, or perhaps it’s just a reflection of the nature of folks on the Island, but on Wednesday evening Lynne Hammond experienced an act of kindness that seems to be totally in keeping with both the spirit of the season and the nature of the community in which she lives.
It was a lovely evening when Hammond decided to take her little “wiener dog” for a walk at Island View Beach.
“With getting the leash and everything organized, I put my car keys down on the ground and, when I was on the beach I discovered that I had forgotten to pick them up,” said Hammond.
Locked out of her car, she began her search for the keys. She retraced her steps to no avail as darkness fell.
“That’s when this lovely grandmother, her daughter and her granddaughter noticed my problem and were quick to offer their help,” said Hammond. “They spent more than an hour searching, but it was getting dark, and we never did find the keys.”
Still, the trio of good Samaritans stayed with Hammond as she called for a cab to take her home where she could retrieve a spare. They also noticed that little Jasper (the dog) was shivering with the evening cold and wrapped him in a towel to keep him warm.
“I’m sorry to say that I didn’t even get these great people’s names, but I wanted to reach out and say ‘thank you for your kindness’,” said Hammond. “I come from Ottawa originally, and I can tell you that this would not have happened there. The people here are incredible, and I want to thank these three for being so wonderful.”
Consider it done.
