For the third straight year local Greater Victoria Save-On-Foods grocery stores stocked the pantry at Jeneece Place with more than $1,200 worth of food and gift certificates.

The actual donation is $1,224 in total, including $300 in gift cards, to help feed the families visiting sick kids enduring long stays at Victoria General Hospital.

In six years Jeneece Place has hosted nearly 1,500 families, of which about 850 have returned at least once, bringing the total number of family visits to 2,350.

The house has a large kitchen and pantry so families can eat close to the hospital without breaking their food budget.

“[The Save-On-Foods] donations make a huge difference to people’s experience at the house,” said Christina Peacock, Jeneece Place house manager. “The foods they bring stock our pantry, and for families who are under huge stress, being able to simply go into the pantry and find things to make a meal takes a considerable load off their shoulders.”

Volunteers come in to the house and prep the meals for families.
