Until the end of this week, students at Parkland Secondary School in North Saanich are collecting food for the Sidney Lions Food Bank.

It’s an annual campaign at the high school, with a goal of collecting 10,000 cans. It’s an ambitious goal and this year students have brought in only around 3,500 cans, or the equivalent in other foodstuffs.

Student Mariah Provan says organizers went to each class to spread the word and the school held a food drive at Thrifty Foods recently.

The drive ends this Friday, Dec. 21, after which the donations will be taken to the food bank to help the community.
