Fifteen years since local entrepreneurs purchased Red Barn Market, the chain is opening its eighth and largest location yet in North Saanich with a soft opening on Monday, July 29.

The new store is located in the Sandown Park Shopping Centre with a parking lot that fits 191 parking stalls.

"We've wanted to be in this trade area for a long time and it's been an area that we've identified as a really good fit for Red Barn. And I believe that the community from Sidney to North Saanich and the peninsula is excited for Red Barn to be within that community," said Russ Benwell, co-owner.

At just over 10,000 square feet, one of the new location's highlights will be its large sandwich bar, stocked with goods from Red Barn's smokehouse, which produces bacon, smoked cheese, lunch meats and more.

The store's grand opening will follow with the exact date to be determined, but Benwell said it will lead into the August long weekend. The event will have $65,000 in prizes to be won through a scratch-and-win campaign.

Also, the Barn Bucks program will also be running. Barn Bucks is Red Barn's version of gift cards that can be used at any of its locations, and during the promotion, Red Barn will add another $10 to every $100 purchased in Barn Bucks.

As a locally owned grocery store whose mandate is to support local vendors, Red Barn Markets works with about 100 local makers and farmers, Benwell estimates.

Full and part-time positions are now available at the new location at 10330 McDonald Park Rd.
