A North Saanich school will be packed with fun, games and the sounds of children laughing later this month.
KELSET Elementary School’s spring fair returns May 26 after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, which organizers estimated resulted in more than $50,000 in lost revenues.
In hopes of off-setting some of those losses, this year’s event promises to be bigger than ever with the largest raffle in the fair’s history featuring two grand prizes – tickets for two from WestJet and a Samsung heat pump with installation from Stokes Heating and Cooling – and a 50/50 add-on.
All of the funds raised support students and extracurricular activities at the school including much-needed equipment and uniforms for sports teams.
The event is organized by the school’s parent advisory committee and the PAC hopes it will recoup some budget shortfalls.
“This year’s fair is one that many have been waiting for, after not having a fair for the past three years. Some students will be
experiencing the spring fair for the first time, and we can’t wait to see the joy it brings to our community,” said Jen Wolchyn, a KELSET PAC representative, in a statement.
Other attractions include carnival games, food trucks, a food station, and the Rotary Club of Sidney running even more of its iconic games.
“This fun-filled fair is not just for students and families from the school, but it’s also a time to bring together the Saanich Peninsula community,” said another KELSET representative, Gary Ng, in the same statement. “We can’t run the fair without our precious volunteers and community support – it’s all for the kids.”
Members of the public are encouraged to attend from 5 to 8 p.m. on May 26 at 1800 Forest Park Dr.
