The roster for the Montreal Canadiens Alumni hockey game at The Q Centre features National Hockey League Hall of Fame member Steve Shutt behind the bench handling coaching chores for a collection of players who once wore the jersey of Canada’s most storied sports franchise.

Shutt, who served as an assistant coach with Montreal from 1993 to 1997, was the first left winger to score 60 goals in a single season, and an integral part of the Habs teams that won four consecutive Stanley Cups in the late 1970s. The boys on the bench include goalie Richard Sevigny, who won a Stanley Cup backing up Patrick Roy in 1993, and Oleg Petrov, Keith Acton, Glen Metropolit, John Scott,Mathieu Dandenault, Pierre Dagenais, Jesse Belanger, Marc Andre Betrgeron, and Patrice Brisebois, another member of the club that was the last Canadian team to hoist the Holy Grail in 1993.

Ticket sales for the game, which takes place on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m., have been picking up steam, said Sharlene Law, executive director of the Umbrella Society. The event is the first fundraiser for the non-profit organization, which assists adults and youth dealing with addiction and mental health issues in the Capital region. Law said about 1,000 tickets have been sold already and almost all of the VIP packages have been purchased as well.

Conversations with one of the event’s sponsors, the Victoria Grizzlies, indicated sales are going very well considering the event is still weeks away, Law noted.

The Thrill of a Lifetime promotion that enabled fans to bid on a chance to play with the Canadiens garnered a lot of interest, with Jim Ross and Ryan Coates earning the opportunities of a lifetime, she added. “The Q will be doing a contest to award a chance to serve as an assistant coach behind the Canadiens bench,” Law said. “The silent auction items coming in are amazing, and we have some great prizes for the Chuck-A-Puck too. The support from the community so far has been amazing. It’s going to be a fun day for the whole family.”

The game takes place at 1 p.m., followed by a Grizzlies game, with packages for both games available for $30. Tickets for the Canadiens Alumni game against a team of local firefighters from throughout the region are $20.
