Community groups get grants from Sidney

Town of Sidney gives out $35,000 in grants to service groups

Sidney handed out $35,000 to various community groups Monday night.

"We wish we could do more because there are so many worthy groups," said Sidney Mayor Larry Cross of the grant-in-aid process. "We like to support them as much as we can but there are limits to that."

Groups funded include: Peninsula Celebrations Society ($12,500), Beacon Community Services ($5,500), Community Arts Council of the Saanich Peninsula ($4,500), Peninsula Soccer Association ($2,000), Parkland dry grad ($1,000), Saanich Marine Rescue Society ($1,000), Navy League Saanich Peninsula, Kittyhawk air cadets and the NEED Crisis Line ($800 each), Creature of Habitat ($750) and $500 grants for B.C. Aviation Museum, Greater Victoria Bike to Work Society, Peninsula Streams Society, Peninsula Stroke Recovery activity centre, Piranha swim club, and Victoria Human Exchange Society. Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission was granted $250.
