Victoria International Airport (YYJ) has welcomed a new airline.

Kenmore Air now provides the only scheduled international transportation link between the south Vancouver Island airport and Friday Harbor, Wash., in the U.S. southern Gulf Islands.

The airline’s first flight from the airport was on Thursday (May 25), and there will be two round trips per day.

Kenmore Air is scheduled to arrive daily at YYJ at 10:05 a.m. and 5:05 p.m. and depart the airport at 11:05 a.m. and 6:05 p.m. The schedule will change on Sept. 18.

“We are thrilled to welcome our newest airline, Kenmore Air to Victoria,” said Rod Hunchak, director of business development and community relations for the Victoria Airport Authority, in a news release.

“This complementary expansion to their seaplane service between Victoria’s Inner Harbour and Lake Union, which began in the 1980s, provides additional opportunity for travellers on both sides of the border to visit each other’s respective backyards.”

More than 90,000 passengers fly with Kenmore Air annually.

“We are thrilled to take another step in expanding transportation connectivity to the San Juans,” Kenmore Air president David Gudgel said in a statement.
