Susan Arleen Chase

May 3, 2014

The amazing adventures of Susan Arleen Chase (aka bacon girl) came to a sudden and unexpected end on May 3, 2014. The beloved youngest daughter of Howard And Allison, and (impish sister to Lindsay], Susan was a treasured member of a close-knit family.

She was born in Georgetown, ON. and spent her younger years in Winnipeg. In 1992, the family moved to Victoria and Susan graduated from Parkland High School in Sidney, BC. Susan loved to travel which culminated in a year in Germany on a Rotary exchange. She returned to Victoria fluent in German, and with a new love for spatzle, chocolate, and bacon - never at the same time! Her letters home during this period introduced us to her frequently hysterically funny observations of life, and her relationships with friends and family. She remained a prolific letter writer for the rest of her life. Susan went on to attend the University of Victoria, achieving a BSc in psychology in 2003.

Chronic illness became a problem, but Susan remained a brave, warm and caring person through it all. She retained her love of the written word (even if that occasionally involved romance novels) and her quirky sense of humour. Years of cruising the Gulf/San Juan Islands, family trips to Europe, Britain, France, Hong Kong, Mexico, as well as shorter stays in Korea, Japan, and a cruise through the Panama Canal are all treasured memories of time well spent with a brilliant person.

Her loss leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness, or donate in Susan’s memory to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Emergency Room.

Celebration of her life will be at 2pm May 23, 2014 at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
