Bob, 86, passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on February 26th, 2017 with family by his side. Bob leaves behind his wife of 66 years Barbara Dorothy; his four daughters – Jeanne, Janet, Valerie, and Deborah, son-in-law Clive; seven grandchildren – Allan, Andrea, Christina (Chris), Stephen (Nicole), Sandra, Greg (Jill) and Simon (Dawn); seven great grandchildren – Rebecca, Mykel, Alexis, Micheline, Emma, Taren, and Asher; brother – Mel (Greta). Bob was predeceased by his brothers Sid, Bert, Harold, and sister Muriel. Bob was born in Victoria, B.C. July 31st, 1930 to Robert and Alice May Baldwin. His young years were spent in Sidney, B.C. Bob met and then married Barb in Nanaimo, B.C. on July 29th 1950. They settled in Cassidy B.C. where they brought up their four daughters and continued to live until this day. Bob enjoyed the outdoor life but his real love, after Barb, kids and grandkids, was the land he owned in the Hat Creek Valley, near Cache Creek, B.C., which the family lovingly called “the ranch”. As he moved into retirement, Barb and he began spending more and more time at the ranch, often spending the spring, summer, and fall there before returning to Cassidy for the winter months. He farmed, ranched, owned horses, supervised neighbors’ cattle on the property, irrigated using irrigation ditches, waged strategic battles with the beavers, delighted in the creek that ran through the property, the many wild creatures, the huge trees, had many friends in the surrounding area, and enthusiastically welcomed family and friend visits. Bob was often a man of few words but he was adored by and loved his family greatly. Every day was a gift with many possibilities and opportunities. Now a new day has dawned for Bob. May he find joy in his next journey. There will be no service as per Bob’s request. The family will have a private moment of remembrance at “the ranch” in the summer.
