CLARKE, Phyllis Irene

1930-2007

The passing of this lovely lady has left many people with a very deep sense of loss. She retired to the Saanich Peninsula with her husband, Sid, in 1985, and has contributed to the artistic life of the community by directing 13 productions mostly for the Peninsula Players and inspiring many actors to continue with their interest.

Born in Hartney, Manitoba and educated at the University of Saskatchewan and the Banff School of Fine Arts, she became a teacher in Toronto. She leaves behind a husband and five children: Leslie in Toronto, Donna in Calgary, Irene in Orillia, Christine in N. Saanich and Gwyneth in Vancouver. This talented lady will be remembered not only for her prowess as a director and many awards as an actress (in BC she received a Theatre BC Best Supporting Actress award), but, also for her wonderful smile and totally engaging personality. She leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. A commemoration will be held at a date to be announced. Thanks to the staff of the Cancer Clinic, the Palliative Ward of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Dr. Lora Morrice. Any contributions to Canadian Cancer Society: 750 Hillside Victoria
