The world lost a unique, vibrant, and loving soul on the morning of Sunday, January 29th 2017. Our dear Mary Grace McCartney, after an all too short challenge with cancer, danced away in spirit from her room in the Victoria Hospice. Mary was an inspiration to her siblings John, Patrick (Wingchee) and Barane (Randy) as well as her nephews Ian and Lachlan plus her nieces Avalon and Cassidy. Mary also leaves behind hundreds of cherished friends, colleagues, and clients who will miss her incredible presence. One cannot begin to describe Mary in a brief obituary; her light, personality and passion for life was just too great. She loved her job as a massage therapist which she did for twenty three years, the last ten in Brentwood Bay. Her energy was legendary and she was always jogging, hiking, climbing, riding her bike, kayaking, singing and dancing. She saw the world with only a back-pack – climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, dove in the waters off the islands of the Caribbean, Vietnam and Thailand, hiked to Machu Picchu, observed the Galapagos Islands, and experienced the countries of Europe, South East Asia, South America, and Africa. Even though Mary was only with us for 54 years, she led a memorable and meaningful life. Mary’s family are very grateful to the nurses, doctors and oncologists at Saanich Penninsula Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital, the Cancer Care Clinic and everyone at Victoria Hospice who treated her with love, respect and dignity. We would also like to thank Mary’s many friends who helped in numerous ways along her journey with a special mention to “Mary’s Marvellous Meal Makers”. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring which was Mary’s favourite time of year. Tributes and memories can be shared by visiting www.earthsoption.com.
