August 12, 2013

1923 - 2013

Jean passed away in the evening of August 12th. A dearly loved Wife and Mother who will be sadly missed by her husband of 54 years, John Walter Barker and daughter Barbara June (David).

Born in Wavertree, Liverpool, UK on November 28, 1923 to George Clifford and Annie White. Predeceased by her father (1936), mother (1976) and sister Audrey (1981). Jean emigrated to Canada in 1956, finally settling in the Victoria area following her marriage in 1959.

Many will remember Jean for her 15 years of dedication to the patrons of the VI Reg. Library and numerous years of volunteering with the Tourism Bureau and the PCA Thrift Shop. She was a very talented watercolour artist, calligrapher, rug hooker and knitter. Jean was also a very dedicated First Mate aboard “Interlude” and instrumental in the winning of many Canoe Bay Sailing Club Trophies.

Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the Doctors and staff of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital PCU for their kindness and care during Mum’s final days.

Please join family and friends, as we honour and remember Jean, at the Chapel of Royal Oak Memorial Park on Friday, August 23rd at 2:00pm, following a private burial in the Woodlands Area. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
