July 2, 1923 - May 1, 2017

We sadly announce the passing of Lyall (Dad), a kind, honest and gentle soul, a man who loved and was loved by many. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family. Lyall was born in Cornwall, Ontario to James and Myrtle Riddell. He served in the Canadian Army in Europe during WWII. After the war he proudly served in the RCAF spending most of his military career at Centralia, Ontario, a time and place that remained very special to him. In 1966 he and his family settled in Victoria. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 43 years, Colleen, children Lyn (Randy), Kathryn (Glen), Ray (Debbie), Chris (Diane), Stephen (Nancy) Judy and David (Carol), his sisters Pat in Winnipeg and Lib in Lachine, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many extended family and his special “Buddy” Caesar. Thank you to Dr. E. Cadger, Community Health Nurses and especially the volunteers and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at SPH for their care and compassion. A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 2pm, First Memorial on Falaise Drive. In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Lyall’s name to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund. You will be forever in our hearts “Till We Meet Again”
