Winifred Fitzgerald (Brown) was born in London, England. She passed away peacefully at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care, at the age of 100 years. Many family and friends shared in the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday less than two months earlier. Winifred married Frederick Fitzgerald in London in 1937. They immigrated to Canada in 1947 with their three children Brenda, Ralph and Frederick. Two more children, Terrence and Avril were born in Calgary. The family moved to Edmonton in 1965. After Frederick passed away in 1999, Winifred returned to Calgary in 2001. In her 90’s, she was able to travel extensively and enjoyed social activities with the Calgary Heritage Seniors. In 2010, she set out on another adventure, moving to Sidney BC with family, where she met wonderful neighbors on Allbay Road. She enjoyed companionship and aerobics at Shoal Center until age 97 years.
Winnie was the nucleus of a family spanning four generations. She exuded unconditional love to all her family and friends. She is survived by her children Brenda (Wes Rose), Ralph (Lynne), Frederick (Susan), Terrence (Marilyn) and Avril (Thomas Noseworthy), 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday April 18 2015 at 2 pm at McInnis and Holloway 5008 Elbow Drive Calgary. The family would like to thank the staff and care givers at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care Unit 2 for their compassionate and loving care.
