Firefighters battled a bus fire at Blanshard and Fort Street during the morning rush at about 8:25 a.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle was a Wilson’s Transportion 20-person ‘Mini Coach’ routinely used for airport shuttle routes. Victoria police on the scene confirmed only the driver was on board. The operator was “a little shaken” was was transported to hospital with no major injuries.

For a little under an hour, Blanshard Street was blocked to traffic as fire crews dealt with the charred bus.

“Our biggest concern is the safety of the general public,” said John Wilson, owner of the bus company. “There will be an investigation as to what caused this … For now we’re just happy that everyone involved is safe and sound.”
