A man was arrested and is facing charges of mischief after he allegedly smashed a window of another vehicle.

In what is being described as a road rage incident, Sidney North Saanich RCMP stated today that a woman reported the damage following a road rage episode on the Pat Bay Highway at Sidney's Beacon Avenue on Feb. 4.

In a police statement, Cpl. Doug Wilson said the female driver reported she had been driving north on the highway in the left lane and had repeatedly signaled to enter the right lane. According to the statement, a man in a white Chevrolet Malibu would not let her merge and kept speeding up to block her every attempt to do so.

When the female driver stopped at a red light at Beacon Avenue, she reported that the man got out of his car, walked over and hit her window, causing it to break. She subsequently called police.

Wilson reported that the RCMP identified the driver of the Malibu, a Victoria resident, and arrested him under a mischief charge. He was subsequently released from custody with a court date and several conditions to follow during his release.
