Pen Track Masters harvest gold
By Danny Daniels/Contributor
At the recent Washington State Seniors Games, Peninsula Track’s Anne Murfitt and Les East both added to their 2014 haul of Masters medals by bringing a hatful back to Canada.
Murfitt, competing in the womens 50 to 54 age group, copped a gold medal for her 16.65m Javelin throw and added two silvers with her PB of 7.79m in the Shot event and a 21.72m Hammer Throw.
For good measure, she also took bronze with her 6.76m Weight Throw heave.
East (M75-79) snared three gold medals, the first coming when he set a new Games Meet Record, and also a season’s best, by clearing 1.21m in the High Jump contest.
His 31.50m hurl in the Hammer Throw and his Weight Toss effort on 12.01m gained his other two gold medallions.
Added to his total were bronze medals in the Discus (30.02m) and Shot, with a PB of 9.27m.
By achieving these top three results, Murfitt and East not only brought home a haul of medals but they also qualified to compete in next year’s U.S. National Seniors Games event in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The two athletes will also take off to the 2015 World Masters Championships in Lyon, France, later that month.
