A positive outlook for the food bank
Food donations are down, but the Sidney Lions Food Bank feels comfortably full heading into the new year.
“A lot of our food drives have been less successful than they have in the past, but money donations are staying on course with last year,” said administrator Bev Elder.
Whether it’s the move to a new building, which saw the food bank close for a week just prior to hamper season, or just more people in need, they’re seeing a lot more last minute folks at the door.
Last weekend’s food drives by the three Peninsula fire departments filled the shelves. The Saanichton Village Christmas also added food and $1,100 in cash donations.
“That’s going to stuff our shelves for a long time,” Elder said. “We’ll be OK. We’ve definitely got a good start.”
Donate to the Sidney Lions Food Bank at the Christmas Hamper Depot, 2388 Beacon Ave. until today (Dec. 23) at 4 p.m.
The food bank will be open to donations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 to 29 at 9586 Fifth St.
“We’ll just carry over into the new year,” Elder said.
