Why a dental visit should join your list of baby’s ‘firsts’

Like many “firsts” in children’s lives, first dental visits are an opportunity to begin a lifetime of good oral health and positive dental experiences.

Dental anxiety typically occurs when dental visits only happen when patients need them, explains Sidney dentist Dr. Saba Shakeri.

By visiting for regular cleanings or even a ‘chair-ride,’ children will feel more comfortable throughout their lives and create better oral hygiene habits, says Dr. Shakeri, new owner of Fine Dentistry, which has been making Sidney residents smile for the past 15 years.

“We always enjoy seeing families in the waiting room. We’re a very family-friendly dental office and encourage our parents to expose their children as early as six months old to visiting the dentist,” Dr. Shakeri says, noting the practice is currently accepting new patients, and in particular new families, to their care.

“Early exposure is the best way to prevent dental anxiety and dental disease later on in life and binging your child in for regular checkups allows us to build a foundation of trust with them, making necessary visits easier in the future.”

Focused on Patient Comfort

Fine Dentistry is a full-service dental office that offers everyday dental care to seniors and families alike, with a focus on preventive care and caring for patients suffering from dental anxiety.

“Patient comfort is a top priority in our office – we’re always happy to welcome patients with dental anxiety,” Dr. Shakeri says. “We offer services like oral sedation to help nervous patients feel more comfortable during their visit. We also offer non-pharmaceutical tips and tricks to help keep kids in particular comfortable while in the dentist chair.”

Dr. Shakeri earned his B.Sc. in kinesiology from the University of Victoria before completing his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia. Choosing to settle down and take over Fine Dentistry in Sidney, so he could be closer to his own friends and family.
