A collection of small explosive devices found at a construction site in Sidney were inert and not a danger to the public.

Police on Friday, May 12 were called to a building site on Shoreacres Road after someone reported finding potential explosives. In a statement, Sidney North Saanich RCMP Corporal Douglas Wilson said officers located “small, red devices which were labeled with explosives warnings.”

The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was called to investigate and confirmed them to be shock tube detonators, which had already been used and were no longer live.

Wilson said anyone who finds what they suspect might be explosives should not touch or disturb anything and call the police as soon as possible.
