On Thursday, April 13 Sidney will receive a donation of $5,000 for its new skateboard park.

That’s the official cheque presentation by the Sidney branch of Coast Capital Insurance Services Ltd. to the municipality. Mayor Steve Price will join Branch Manager Susan Emery and Insurance Advisor Keli Young at the site of the skate park at 10 a.m. for the formal cheque pass.

Sidney’s skateboard park is currently under construction by Newline Skate Parks in Tulista Park along Lochside Drive. The project is costing the Town more than $300,000 - funded through existing funds, grants and donations like this one. The new park replaces the existing skate park next to the Pat Bay Highway — which is slated to be demolished as the Town proceeds with two other capital projects: its new community safety building and a large parking lot.

Since starting the skateboard replacement project, the Town has been reaching out to the business community, and residents in general, for donations to help populate the new facility with the extras.

It’s expected the new park will be ready for use by the public in time for Sidney’s Canada 150 celebrations on July 2.
