Sidney’s Beacon Park was set aside for families on Sunday, as it became home to the Children’s Carnival — part of the Town of Sidney’s ongoing Canada 150 events this weekend, leading up to Canada Day next weekend.
Children of a variety of ages took park in games, face painting, an inflatable play area brought in by Panorama Recreation Centre and took aim at the fire house with hoses from the Sidney Fire Department.
All the fun began Saturday, June 24, with a Paint the Town Red and White Street Party, hosted by the ANAVETS organization. The evening continued with a 1950s themed street dance.
The fun continued tonight (Sun., June 25) with the Dinner en Rouge. Sidney’s Beacon Park will be filled with tables and guests dressed in red and white will sit down to a meal, while being serenaded with live music. The event is fashioned after the popular Dinner en Blanc, but with the added red, to make it clearly a Canada affair. The dinner is sold out and starts at around 5 p.m.
Sidney’s Canada 150 events continue on Monday, June 26 over at the SHOAL Centre on Resthaven Drive. The Centre hosts Celebrate the Roots of our Community: a commemorative tree planting, buffet lunch, guest speakers and a Canada Day cake. Tickets are available at the SHOAL Centre and it gets under way at 11 a.m. and runs to 1:30 p.m.
And, right before Sidney’s big Canada Day events next weekend, the Sidney Street Market on Beacon Avenue on Thursday, June 29, will stay open an extra hour to 9:30 p.m., in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday this year.
