Dinner en Rouge fills Sidney’s Beacon Park with Canadian pride.

More than 300 people - decked out in their best red and white garb - had only one scare during Sunday evening’s Dinner en Rouge: a flock of marauding seagulls.

More than 300 people - decked out in their best red and white garb - had only one scare during Sunday evening’s Dinner en Rouge: a flock of marauding seagulls.

The gulls flew on by, luckily, and everyone had a good laugh, which fit right in with the spirit of the evening.

Based on the popular Dinner en Blanc, this was a decidedly Canadian affair, with flags, moose, Canadian geese (those two in stuffed toy form) and a lot of national pride. Dinner en Rouge was Sidney’s answer to the outdoor dining experience and part of its ongoing Canada 150 events, leading up to Canada Day and Sidney Days events, June 30 to July 2.
