A landmark on the Sidney waterfront is no more.
The Bottle Tree, near the Bevan Avenue pier, has vanished from alongside the paved walkway. Town of Sidney employees at the site said the tree blew down during high winds in October and had to be removed. The Town is adding nautical bolsters next to the walkway to fill the void.
The Bottle Tree saw people hang glass bottles of all sorts — some with notes and others simple decoration — on its branches. Passers-by said it will be missed.
