A crowd of people gathered in Sidney’s Beacon Park Sunday, April 30 for a mass singing of ‘O Canada’ — the brainchild of Town Crier and Sidney’s Canada 150 event organizer Kenny Podmore. He says he hopes the idea will catch on with other communities across the country, as Canada gets set to mark its 150th anniversary as a nation on July 1.

For many people in the park for the event, getting together with friends and neighbours was a big part of what they were there — and a deep meaning behind what it means to be Canadian.

The large choir in the park was captured on video, which will be distributed on various media and social media sites and certainly shared many times leading up to Canada Day in July.
