guest speaker Alex Earl of Project AWARE visits centre this weekend

SIDNEY — The Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre (SODC) in cooperation with the diving community of British Columbia and the Vancouver Aquarium, presents special guest speaker Alex Earl of Project AWARE Saturday, April 27 at 6 p.m.

Earl spent his childhood in Stewart, B.C. and graduated from the University of British Columbia after studying political science and world history.

He became passionate about marine preservation through his love of scuba diving, and has forged a path of conservation with many accomplishments, including his role as a global executive at Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

He is now the Executive Director of Project AWARE, a global community of ocean divers committed to creating initiatives that protect the waters of our planet.

Earl’s talk at SODC will focus on  global conservation efforts that have started through Project AWARE.

Also speaking at the event will be Angus Matthews, executive director of SODC as well as the Salish Sea Institute. His talk will focus specifically on our local Salish Sea and the need for citizens to take an active role in protecting Canada’s urban sea.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the talk begins at 6 p.m. The event is provided by SODC free of charge, though donations made to the not-for-profit aquarium are encouraged.
