There’s a lot more to filling a glass with water than simply turning on a tap.

The Capital Regional District’s Get to Know Your H2O Tour provides an in-depth look at where drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and how the CRD’s consistently rated high-quality aqua makes its way to your faucet.

A spokesperson for the CRD said the free 5.5-hour tour follows the flow of the water supply starting at the north end of Sooke Lake Reservoir and explores the surrounding forests and the main tributary to the reservoir, Rithet Creek. It also visits water supply facilities and the treatment process that ensures the water delivered to your home is of the highest quality.

Due to popular demand, additional tours are being added to the May schedule, expanding beyond the usual June dates. Each tour is open to anyone 12 years old and over and has a limit of 42 people.

Advance registration for tours is required. Visit crd.bc.ca/service/public-tours/watershed-tours after March 22 to register for information on dates and times.
